I don’t spend all my spare time hacking at an insanely fast, pony-themed remote text editor. Sometimes, I hack at other pony-themed things, like this 30-meter tall version of the PonyEdit icon built in Minecraft.
No cheating involved; this was built in Hardcore mode on a randomly seeded world.
I think it makes Minecraft more fun when you have a goal in mind, no matter how arbitrary. It forces you to play in unusual ways and explore different ways of playing. To build this, I had to spend several in-game days traveling across the surface by day and hunkering down in temporary shelters by night to collect all the necessary dyes. I had particularly bad luck finding squids to collect ink, and wound up spending far too many nights floating around lakes at night in my tiny wooden boat.
At least I had no trouble finding my way back home after I started construction; you can see it from kilometers away.
